Mad Moa is the island themed restaurant that’s taken over the small shop house that originally housed Seven Spoons (right near the Jor Por Ror intersection). The location can be hard to find if you’re not familiar with the area, but once you arrive you’re welcomed in to the restaurant’s inviting warm wood and scatter brained decor. There’s still the remnants of a bar and tiki glasses being used to hold spoons and forks, so you may be wondering after a few glances of the one page menu, why there are no cocktails or how hearty American food fits into the island theme. Sorry Skipper, because here Mad Moa leaves you stranded with the only solace for the confusion being an off the menu option of the latest craft brew from the local Udomsuk Brewery.
Still there’s a chill vibe in the restaurant and the craft beer does help you ease into the space. The menu won’t overwhelm, offering only two appetizers; a choice between cheesy curly fries (160 THB) and fried calamari with jalepeno mayo (180 THB). The rest of the menu is mostly made up by meaty American favorites, burgers (280 THB), a hotdog (240 THB), flank steak (240 THB) and ribs (320 THB). The only other offerings are squid pasta and a stew featuring Sloane’s Sausages that for some reason they decided to call gumbo (280 THB). Forgive the restrained, so-called “gumbo” and you still have plenty of flavorful winners, like the slow cooked and dry spice rubbed ribs on Mad Moa’s, short menu. Seek out this restaurant for a casual place to chill in the area, chat with friends, and do little heavy thinking.
