Not long ago I wrote a review on Lifestyle Asia about the Italian restaurant Jojo in the St. Regis Hotel. It’s a swanky place and may not be on most people’s list for a regular meal, but I thought it’s worth noting if you’re looking for a special splurge. Especially if whatever special occasion you’re celebrating– say uhh the weekly arrival of Wednesdays– involves exorbitant amounts of chocolate or cheese. That’s why this week’s overweight plates also happen to be two of the flashiest dishes on the Jojo menu.
If you’re a looking to indulge in cheese and chocolate in Bangkok, have a gaze below!
Black Truffle Fettuccine Alfredo in a Castelmagno D.O.P. Cheese Wheel
What’s the big deal: Italy regulates cheese similar to the way it regulates wine. So there’s actually a limited number of official D.O.P. cheese wheels made of Castelmagno, approximately 600 each year. Fortunately for local foodies, a few of them end up in Bangkok, where piping hot alfredo is tossed in them, melting the cheese at the center of the wheel. The result is a super rich and cheese pasta dish which gets the attentions of the entire restaurant as it’s tossed by Jojo staff at your table. Finally they plate the cheesified alfredo and grade black truffle over the top!
Gianduiotto “Gobino” Chocolate Carving at Jojo
What’s the big deal: Not sure if you can see it, but the same cart used to toss the alfredo, actually houses a giant pyramid of Gianduiotto chocolate. Whenever a customer orders the cart comes back to the table and the pyramid of indulgence is slices with a long sword-like knife. Each carving is large and plate sized and just when you’re thinking you’ve neared climax, they pour over a vanilla sauce and plate it with fresh berries. You need to bring backup or be a real Bangkok Fatty to finish it!
