These ain’t the cute little samosas you’re used to being served before a meal. No, these samosas are mini-meals in themselves and may sabotage your dining plans. They’re giant, irresistible curry puffs and since Georgetown, Penang is very strollable and damn hot, it’s almost impossible to say no to them when they’re spotted.
“Real life hot pockets, these samosas ain’t the dainty things often served as appetizers.”
Often you can catch them being deep fried on the spot or still hot when you buy them. Just don’t make the mistake of snatching up a few while you’re on the way to another meal, they could RUIN your appetite. The piping hot, thick curry incased in each little crispy, pot bellied triangle is enough to derail a feasting adventure.
There’s two general spots I’ve had amazing samosas. There’s a few not so great versions too, so I recommend hitting the area of Penang street around Lebuh Tamil and, of course, Little India. These stands also usually feature a host of other treats if you want to cancel your dinner plans and make a trip to one a feasting expedition in itself.
